Bellringers at All Saints Church in Sawley have secured a £3,484 council grant towards improvements to their church tower. Erewash Borough Council’s announcement says the work includes eight replacement bell ropes, electrical improvements and an electric heater for the ringing room.
The existing ropes are more than 30 years old and have needed repeated repairs. Replacement ropes are being commissioned from a specialist maker in Loughborough.
Sawley councillor Harry Atkinson supported the application to the council’s community grants programme. The proposed refurbishment also includes a camera so learners and visitors can see the bells in motion without entering the belfry.
